A few months ago they were selling for like $2,795 in Canada but they were impossible to import to the USA.

since they skirted the law (albeit a rediculous law) they where probably told "do not do that again by the "imperial gaurds" of atf. why else would they not make that kind of mark up??

If I am not mistaken, the German manufacturer, SSD has gone out of business, in part I have been told, due to some bad business practices on the part of one of its U.S. partners.

Well, if the manufacturer went out of business, why isn't the machines or dies or whatever needed to manufature them in the USA being brought over to set up production here? Wouldn't that over-ride the BATFE rulings about importation if they are being made here?
I look in Shotgun News and see several variations of AK-47s being sold here, I just cannot see why these semi-auto MP-44s are such a difficult chore.

If the price was in that range here in the US, I would probably buy one.

If they were in that price range here I would imagine they could sell 1,000 in a month.

It's a rumor more than anything. There was a news bit on a German forum I read, but I've been in contact with SSD since then and they are still in business.

                      Stay tuned

I know about the importing having been stopped to the U.S. of the BD44 to PTR and Recon, but SSD is NOT out of business. Last I knew only Recon had any rifles left for sale and they were selling for $5,000. One on Gunbrokers recently sold for $5,500. Stay tuned...

Reminds me of the little boy and his lemonade stand.
A man asked him how much for a glass of lemonade and the little boy says "One million dollars"
The man chuckles and said "You probably won't sell many at that price".

The little boy says "I just want to sell one"

I would absolutely love to have one of these but they are way overpriced for what they are, IMO. Maybe someday I can get my hands on a used one for half-price or something...

I have asked several people and have never gotten an answer as to why thousands of AK-47s can be sold but these semi-auto MP-44s are prohibited. Is it a bayonet lug thing or what? I believe the AK47s are being manufactured outside the US and imported.
If the bulk of the parts can be made in Germany and imported legally, then a receiver manufactured in the US can be assembled on the parts, what would be the hold up?
I would dearly love to have one but I simply cannot see paying over $5,000 for one.
As I have said before, if these were available for under $3,500 they would sell 1,000 a month and mag sales would be brisk also as everyone would want an extra 6.

I would imagine the cost to produce an MP44 receiver is much more than an AK. That's probably one of the reasons we aren't seeing a domestic MP44 business.

BTW- I seem to remember the few people who purchased the repros had issues with the repro magazines. The original magazines fed better than the repros.

I saw Recon has an ad in Shotgun News wanting $4,995 for them. Marstar is wanting $2,700 Canadian for the ones they have.
