The reason your K98k is dripping with British proof marks is that when it was first sold on the British market it was not deactivated but sold as a 7.9mm SHOTGUN. To qualify as a shotgun it had to have a barrel over 24 inches long, hence the muzzle extension which changes the appearance. You could then fire 7.9mm blanks through it on a Shotgun Certificate, which is easier to obtain than a full Firearms Certificate.
Later in its life your rifle was then deactivated - you're better off finding a K98k which was deactivated in its original status.
The Proof House can be sympathetic - my K98k was deactivated by Ryton's who asked the Proof House to stamp the barrel below the stock line so no marks visible. This fact is recorded on the Proof Certificate.
I'd show you a picture of the Proof Cert but I cannot post pictures all of a sudden - email sent to w-a forum, but no reply yet - MODERATOR CAN YOU HELP?
This is why if you borrow Daddy's 12 bore Purdey and saw the barrels below 24 inches to rob your local bank you're in deep trouble!
    Hope this clears things up.
    All the best,
    Grossfuss
    Thanks for the information mate.

Has your paid membership expired? Is that the reason why you can't post pictures?

    Cheers

I was inclined to bellieve i'd paid a little less for the rifle and bayonet than what they were worth. The rifle also comes with it's deactivated certificate. Did i get the good deal i thought?
