    MP 40 ayf 42

    Dear Friends,

I`ve been offered an MP 40 marked ayf 42 with WaA code 280. The folding butt and front sight guard seem to be manufactured during late-war period. Would you please contribute your opinions on this item? I am also embarrassed with "43" marking on the bottom of front part of the receiver: does it indicate the year of manufacturing?

    Here are the pictures:

Your MP40 was manufactured by Erma (AYF code) in 1943 using many subcontracted parts manufactured by "COS". The metal has been re-finished.

    Thanks for sharing.

      hi Kadaver,
      very nice mp40

Why do you thing that folding stock and front sight guard ( Kornschutz) are made post-war ? IMO they should be original ww2 . As Cincylance already indicated, the metal is probably re-finished .

How much the seller demands for it ?

Its correct that the mp40 is completely match number ? I see the same number on shoulder rest, front sight guard ... ?

      cheers schmeisserfan

        Cincylance, thanks for your reply!

Hi, Schmeisserfan! I wrote that the folding stock and the Kornschutz are late-war (actually, as for me - the second war period begins in 1943) but not post-war. The folding stock has more sharp form (these two rims around the button) and the Kornschutz misses the stud which prevents unscrew of muzzle nut. The Kornschutz also misses the protrusion for the muzzle cleaning cap. Yes, this MP seems to be with matching numbers. The seller wants 2,900 Euro, while I find this price rather high for the piece manufactured in year 1943.

        K

          hello Kadaver,
sorry that was my fault . I´ve read post-war instead of late-war

I know what you mean, here an example of my mp38 barrel deactivated with the early version of front sight guard .

2900 euros ? thats incredible high and too much . For that money you could rather buy a rare mp38 with a bid of luck

          regards schmeisserfan

              MP40 ayf 43

              Hi,
Nice gun but rather pricy as said above.
As so often happens it's been reassembled with the front sling loop on the wrong side - in this configuration the gunner gets the bolt handle digging into him if he has the gun slung over his back!
              Good hunting,
              Grossfuss

Colleagues, many thanks for your replies! Because of a number of reasons the prices for the deactivated guns in Russia are much higher than in America and Europe.

That's it! Early MP-40 also had the front sight guard with this feature. Several years ago I dug out a MP40/1 wich had flat magazine receiver and early front sight guard.
