Police Holsters - What are they?

    Hello Gentlemen,

Is it a solid rule that ALL Police issued holsters have the closure flap pointing up as seen in the two examples below? I have been told this over the years but is it true?

However this is a Police issued holster which is serial numbered to its Eagle C marked Sauer 38h?????

Please clarify this age old problem for me and those of us who are still in the dark on this subject matter!!!

    Many thanks,
    Vince

    Hi Vince,

The use of the upward closure strap on police holsters is only generally true for certain ones. I have seen quite a few police holsters for pocket pistols that have the downward closure strap.

Here is a link to one I sold a few years ago: http://lmd-militaria.com/page514.html

      Hi Leon,

Exactly like my last holster pictured. So just a general rule it is.
      Thanks for your opinion,
      Vince

Vince, I don't think there is a general rule. For the P08s and P38s, police accepted holster fasten upwards. For the small caliber guns, police accepted holsters usually fasten downward. Officers used their own purchased sidearm and holster. There are always an odd exception to the above. I have a military style hard shell P38 holster with a police style acceptance eagle but no letter visible on the chest. Look for the police acceptance stamp for the indication.

          Hi Joe,

Sounds reasonable. I agree and have had similar experiences.
          My best,
          Vince
