I'm curious about the correct designation for this carbine. I know it was WW1 issue and seemed to be pretty popular, sort of a forerunner of 98k, and even copied by Poland. I have seen the designation in various references as 98a and 98az. Which is correct and why?
Also, I have seen examples with and without bolt dismount wahers in the stocks. Were these later added? Finally, what usage was made of it by the Wehrmact in WW2. Reserve issue, police only, ect.?
