Mauser 98 1939/42 rifle questions/help

I appologize for the lack of pics but I had to ask those who know better about a vet aquired Mauser rifle. It is marked 1939 witha 42 above. All serial numbers match and there is an "M" under a couple. Lots of eagle stamps.
Okay my question is that it appears to have never been fired, had a strap, or put anywhere near battle. It also has what appears to be clear laquer on most of the exposed medal parts. Also the front bands near the barrel appear to be "brass". Can anyone tell me if this is all common stuff??

its like trying to tell the difference between the real marilyn monroe and an impersonator with a verbal description...before she was dead of course...
