    WW1 Colt 1911 US Navy

I have had a WW1 Colt US Navy marked .45 for many years. The serial number is 274XXX I believe this serial number reflects a 1918 production date. I don't see anything relating to naval production past 1915. The finish on the slide and frame are perfectly matched. I'm curious as to whether there might have been some Colt navy models assembled near the end of WW1? Thanks in advance for your help.

          1911 Colt

The saftey appears to be a replacement. It does appear to have a parkerized finish.

the U.S. Navy designation was stamped on pistols throuh March of 1915 totaling 15,037 pistols with that identifying marking. An additional 7,942 pistols were shipped the navy through 1918 with the Army marking on the slides. your pistol appears to be Parkerized, probably a rearsenaled example with a mis-matched slide however it is a nice shootable pistol. best regards

              Colt 1911

              Hi Stu,
I had this gun checked by a gunsmith years ago, he told me that the saftey had been parkerized, but didn't believe the rest of the gun was. I'm not sure. It is an interesting piece though.
              Thanks,
              Mike
