Last ditch 900 round box.
Hi, second try at replying to this thread (don't what happened to my first post!) there were several of these for sale at Beltring a few years back the box I bought was marked with what looks like gjx 1945. They have what looks to me a latch ditch type of construction certainly compared to earlier 7.92 boxes, (either that or made in someone's shed last week)! Regards David.

Thanks Tom,
often you find the Patronenkasten 900 are without paper labels, describing the content, on the outside of the box (they could have been lost of course, but often there don´t seem to have been any from the start - only on the inside of the lid), now this would not matter if the content was 900 cartridges 7,92mm standard as written on the lid, but would be unlogically if the content was 7,92 Kurz instead. How would they know which box contained what without having to open them? (could be critical in a combat situation and from a logistical view).
... and Tom: please show pics of the box/label if possible ;-))
Thanks

Thanks for showing Tom, it is really a rare and nice box you have there. The paint seems more latewar light grey (as seen on R Mun 4922 and Kart. l.F.H. 18 boxes) than tan? Its interesting that the box is still stencilled ´Patronenkasten 900´. How did they keep trace of what boxes contained what (7,92 standard or 7,92 Kurz) without having to open them all up then? Often also the boxes containing standard 7,92 do not have any trace of ever having a contents label on the outside of the box, only on the inside of the lid.
Regards

The ooutside contents label are often missing after 60 jears.
There are 900 cartridges 8x57 or 1260 7.92x33 in 3 Packhülsen (battelpack) with Heeresmunition 25 kg on the outside or 1500 7,92x33 with 100 loose boxes.with 33 kg on the outside .
