Maybe somebody can help me out here? Were the any difference in the issuing of black and brown mp40's or were they issued irrespective to all units of the Wehrmacht?? What is the reason for having brown ones and black ones? The reason for my question is a comment that brown mp40 were issued to the Fallshirmjager spesifically? I apologise if this have been adressed before or if it is a stupid question. Jacques

I won't call it a stupid question.
I think it was like P 38 grips, just a variation.
Assuming you mean the bakelite.
I once saw a MP 38 when dewats were common that was painted tan with brown furniture.

there are different kinds of foregrips and handgrips : Red coulour ( the most rare) , brown ( rare ) and dark ( the last really common ).
As I know until now, the coulour is absolutly independent from the units like Fallschirmjäger or HEER .
What you can say is that the Fallschirmjäger had very often the mp38 instead of the mp40

Furthermore... in my experience of collecting I´ve noticed that especially the most early types of the mp40s and from ERMA came with a brown handgrip .Comment
