Yikes! If so, I really got fooled on this one. I have been cleaning it for over an hour and it certainly has what appears to be years of "cake" on her. I do not want to misrepresent anything if I sell her.
What would you think it is a reproduction of? Thanks,
    Joe

I'm not sure that I follow you on that. I believe that anything can be well faked, but I have been more or less keeping up with reproduction and fake German holsters since at least 1970 when I saw my first outright copy of a German Luger holster....and I guess that I am saying that I have never seen a fake like this one.

If it is a new fake (from the last year or two) then it would not be a classic reproduction, but just a reproduction! In other words, I consider myself somwhat an expert on the classic reporductions therefore unless this one is shown to be nouveau fake I have some doubts that it is post 1945.

Gentlemen, thank you for all the comments, I greatly appreciate it. As you can see, this has me completely stumped! I do believe just based on the makeup and feel, as well as the construction and parts it is wartime, but I am no expert.
Here are pics of my 1911a1 in the holster. It fits, but is quite snug, and the mag fits into the slot, but also is quite tight (maybe shrinkage over the years??).

Now, on another forum, a member posted an opinion that this could be a late war or postwar French SVW45 or 46. Here is a pic of it and a mag carrying a p38 (which came in it). It does fit nicely, including the mag, but not perfectly, although perhaps the leather would have given a bit as I suspect the pistol nwas in teh holster for many years....and BTW I am running out of pistols to try out LOL!

I suspect that someone knows what this holster was made for and it will only be a matter of time before it is identified on one of the forums.

I feel pretty sure that the holster was made druring or shortly after WWII and made for military use to German specs, at least using the German construction methods and design.

Of course many countries in Europe made holsters under contract for the Germans during WWII and it is likley that some of them continued to make some after the war for national forces using captured and newly produced German pistols.

I don't what style of holsters were used by the French for thier svw P.38 pistols so I could not rule this out for this one.

It seems a little odd that if the post war French elected to copy the German wartime P.38 holster they would not have also copied the size and cut (design shape) specs for it as well! This one is clearly different.

A lot of mid-late war German pistol leather made in other countries under German contract was produced in brown leather..un-dyed and un-marked...or lightly ink stamped only. Was there pistol with the German designation of 674? I realize that there would have been a letter after the disignation as well.

My last comment is that the taper (albeit slight) of the barrel area of the holster is most often seen on holsters for pistols without a full slide, the P.38 holster being a bit of an exception as they have little to no taper in this area.

If the 1911 fits fairly well as well as the magazine, perhaps a Star Mod B would be the one?

Perhaps a Star, the 1911 was definitely tight though (especially the magazine). Does anyone have any period pics of a Star holster inuse, or one in their collection? Thanks Gentlemen, I really appreciate all input,
                    Joe

It appears the mystery has been solved, at least to my satisfaction. On Still's site I was shown a link that showed an early p38 with this holster. Appears to be an early version of the p38 holster (remember it held an AC41). Thank you Gentlemen for this assistance, I am most grateful!

Joe ; what says this is not a Radom holster ?. In my humble experiance I have not seen a german holster for a P08 or P38 that was legit to a like or earlier year peace that was not date makred. Of course we have all seen holsters dated earlier than the pistols issued with them. I would easily assert that earlier pistols could have found their way into later made pattern holsters for a myriad of reasons. Since I have had P38's dated 42 and 43 with like yearor earlier dated hardshells and some hardshells are known with 44 dates I am not keen on buying into this as some how an 'early' P38 holster lacking a date and a WaA.

Could be a Radom holster, no doubt. Different from any Radom holster I have ever had though.
Of course, I have had as well early pistols in late holsters, and vice versa. That was not what I was trying to say at all though. But the two facts are I just do not know, and I know what was in it when I bought it, but for how long who knows?
So until more proof shows up, I guess I will have to assume it was for the p38. But I strongly welcome more suggestions on where this came from.
                          Thanks gew98
