    MP44 Conundrum

    Hi all,
    l have a Shoei MP44 and a mate of mine has a 1945 stamp dated deac MP44.

On the underside of the Fore Stock [ where your left hand goes ] of mine there are a series of Four X Five small holes, but on my mates Deac there are a series of Four X Four holes.

Anyway whilst trundeling around the show we came across the following :-

    1X [ Alleged ] MP43 Deac with Four X Four holes.

1X MP44 Deac [ form a guy in the 2nd Battle Group ] which had Four X Five holes.

1X MP44 Deac [ Trader ] which had a group of Six Holes on one side and then Five Holes in the remaining Three sets.

ls this difference in number of holes due to the different companies that manufactured them or is it date relative.

    Thanks in advance.

    Chris.

You mean the handguard? As far as I know the difference is due to the different companies that produced them. I was able to identify four of them:
    "aqr - Lux, R. u. O., Metallwaren- und Maschinenfabrik A.-G., Marienthal-Bad Liebenstein/Thuer",
"cof - Waffenfabrik Carl Eickhorn, Solingen",
"jvd - Erste Nordboehmische Metallwarenfabrik, Adolf Roessler, Niedereinsiedel, Sudetenland" and
    "Lx" - unknown.

Due to the lack of reference material (or my laziness...) I'm not able to say if there were different handguards from the same company.

There are also handguards without producers' stamps but I have no idea whether they were made by one of the above or fifth, unidentified producer.

    Hope that helps

    Jacek

On my aqr hand guard the the two outer rows of holes are 6 holes and the two inner rows of holes are 5 holes if that means anything to anyone?

It's just one of the patterns. Apart from the number of holes and thickness all handguard were the same.
