    My Fathers Rifle

Could someone tell me more info on this rifle ? My Dad put this together after he came back from Germany in 1946 when he was discharged (Honorable) from the US ARMY. this is what i was told: it's a 30-06 mauser action with a enfield barrle with a left hand twist rifleing. the butt & stock was custom made to fit him (his arm & shoulder) I'm not sure if he brought it back from Germany or not. I would think so. all the GI's got to bring a rifle home. so i've read. anyway, any info or what it might be worth would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, your rifle looks to be a standard mauser action sporting rifle with a set trigger. However we'll need descriptions of the markings on it to provide any more information. Things to look for are company logos and firing proof stamps.

If it has a Enfield barrel then it should have a BNP (British Nitro Proof) stamp on it. One note though, .30-06 is an odd calibre for a European sporting rifle.

Sorry I couldn't offer anymore information.

That Mauser actioned rifle has been sporterized by an American. Your father probably brought back a 98 military rifle and had it sporterized here as did many hundreds of GI's.
The give away is the American Redfield base and ring system installed for the scope. That type of mount was not used in Germany at the time.

I would also add that you will be disssappointed in the value, so its not even worth stating in relative terms as to what sentimental value it might hold. I would hold onto it and leave it just as it is .
