    Turkish Mauser

Another gun ? guys. How about a 1938 Turkish Mauser, no condition given for $58.99? Max.

I'm not really knowledgeable enough to say if that is a "good" price, but at the time when I was paying relatively close attention to the Turkish Mauser world, that would be a "normal" price. I picked up one at a local sporting goods store for about the same amount, and it restored quite nicely. I did get to fondle it (and several of it's cousins) first though...

Thanks Chris. Does this type have a 98 action, and is it strong enough for say a 7.62 type cartridge? Max.

From what I gather the Turkish "Model 38" is a rearsenaled version of the Turkish Model 1903 rifle. The 1903 was essentially a variant of the the Gewehr 98, so yes, it is a 98 action. I'm not really all that knowledgable about rifle cartridges when it comes down to it, but that model of rifle was originally 7.65x53mm, and then later rechambered for 7.92x57mm.

This is the rifle you're referring to, right?

Part of the reason that I ask, is there is also a "short" Turkish Mauser that is sometimes referred to as a "Model 38". However, from what I've seen, the Turkish Mausers that have been imported into the US over the last couple of years all seem to be thier longer cousins. (And there is certainly no mistaking these Mausers for anything even vaguely resembling "short".)
