K98 opinions and comments requested 1943 date

Hi, I have been offered this k98, mostly matching, except for the handguard, which was switched out with one that has no number, because of a duffle cut. I see the sling is postwar and it is missing the sight hood. Just want to get any other feedback on it.

    Thanks,

    Gerard

Are the bands serial #'d?.....Even though 1943 seems late for "H" front bands, BBOTW states this is correct for a J.P. Sauer.......Bodes

I just talked with the seller, the H band is unmarked and he thinks it was replaced with the handguard.

That's a fine looking k98 Gerard. A year earlier than my own "ce" example by J.P. Sauer und Sohn and in great condition. Personally I would love to own this beauty.

Same maker but note the differently applied markings between this rifle and mine.

Gerard, nice looking 98! This look like a pretty good piece, the sling and hood are no issue as well as the handgaurd if all your looking for is a nice matched example. Sauer made good pieces.

Gerard, Are the side stock proofs a small eagle over large 'H' and another eagle?.....Just wondering IF the bottom eagle was added later?......Bodes

Bottom stock eagle is fake, top one is real. I'd be suspicious of matching numbers on that stock just because of that.

Thanks Mike for verifying my suspicions.......I thought the bottom eagle looked rather "fresh", considering the stock has a worn appearance, and lacking any WaA number....Bodes
