I don't doubt a MP36 or prototype exists, but the Top Secret mission I have my doubts about. First, why have we never heard of this mission? How did the raiders who were dropped in find their way out of Nazi Germany in 1943?

My thoughts too Jamie! I have asked in the FJ forum if anyone knows about it.
        Cheers, Ade.

          Raid

I have actually held this weapon and it is a one of a kind masterpiece. The photos do not do this weapon justice. The story about the raid came from the original major and was passed on with the gun. Allegedly, the particulars of the raid are still classified. I don't know why this would be so after so many years but that was what I was told. Regardless, the gun is incredible and its' postwar discovery is an interesting tale in its' own right.

The MP36 was a prototype model developed by ERMA, and was the direct forerunner of the MP38. The MP36 differs from the MP38 by the following:
As you can see in the pics, it has wooden funiture, including the pistol grips.
It also has a spring loaded firing pin, and a two-part bolt joined by a locking screw. Also the MP36 had seclective fire (fully auto, and semi-auto), while the later MP38 was full auto only.
The other main obvious difference is that the magazine housing is canted at a 30 degree angle.

Since we are on the subject of SMGs, I was wondering if anyone has an example of one of my favorite SMGs?
              The MP34(o)!

In case some of you never heard of it, the MP34(o) was developed by Reinmetall after WWI, but due to the constraints of the treaty of Versailles, it was developed by the Swiss as the S1-100. In 1929, Steyr was granted a licence to produce the weapon. In 1934 it was adopted by the German military as the MP34. However, so as not to confuse it with the Bergmann model MP34, it was given the designation "o" for "osterreichisch" (Austrian).
The MP34(o) was a finely crafted SMG. Built to teh highest levels of quality!
If you ever get to see one, you will appriciate this!

The MP334(o) remained in production and service from 1934, to 1945! Was mostly used by German and Austrian police units, but was also used by the German military, and many were aslo exported to Japan! (I'd like to see one of those! )

So, does anyone here have an MP34(o)? and would like to share it with us? Please do so!

              Matt

Hi Matt, talking about the MP34 (o). All the ones I have seen for sale here in the UK are ex Portugese examples with the large coat of arms stampted on the receiver. A very well made gun I agree.
                Cheers. Ade.
