are any markings to find ?

Never saw an item like this, perhaps older than 20.century lol ?

    Perhaps a "blunder buss " ?

Its an 1800's japanese matchlock rifle. They are quite pricey so i would say you scored a great find...they run into the thousands....congratulations. this is a great one most likely brought back from the occupation. All japanese militaria collectors seek these. I havent been so lucky yet in over 40 years.

Thank you very much for your very helpful information. Do you really think that is an original? You are sure? It would be a great find for me!
I have bought it from an old man in germany and he found it when he renovate the roof of his house he bought some years ago. The rifle was hidden between the rafters of the roof.

              Hi,

Its a nice one! The market is a little soft on matchlocks now though. It is most likely signed on the bottom side of the barrel. The heyday for matchlocks was about 20 years ago. Still a very nice gun!

Must have been a item purchased by some german who went to japan as an ally in ww2. How it got in the attic, may have been by the fact that the owner didnt want it to be taken as all weapons were to be turned in after the war regardless.Afte he evaded the allies capturing it, he must have died. May have been a gift from aome upper eschelon officers to a diplomat or ? Regardless Its very nice, and i think the market depends on the maker , rarity , and other such specifics. I dont think the markets soft if you look at the site i attached. I feel they are even more desireablee now than ever. Never seems to be a loss for interest in them, and the more know about them, the more want them and they know a lot more now about them than 20 years ago. Even japanese collectors seek them.

Wonderful score! it could be difficult to correctly identify. The Japanese language has gone through several eras. You may need a professional linguist to decipher the marking, if they can be found. IIRC, there are at least 3 different versions of the written Japanese language in use today, Katakana, Hirogana, and Kanjii. Some are related to sounds of the spoken words phonetically, and some are fixed definition character sets. Contact your local University's international language and linguistics department. You may end up with a huge learning experience.
