    Bayonet inter-exchange-ability

    Greetings,
    I am looking for a bayonet for my M1 Garand. I see them on EBay, but a WWII one is very expensive. I see earlier ones that are less money and I wonder: Will a Springfield or Kraig bayonet lock onto a Garand?
    The early WWI and Kraig rifle bayonets seem to be in the same proportions except the release button is near the end of the handle instead of near the blade.
    Has anyone played around with these bayonets and a Garand rifle?

    Yes, the bayonets for the Krag and the 03 Springfield rifles (the bayonet is actually called the M1905) will fit on a Garand. The M1905 is actually the bayonet that was in service when the Garand was adopted and it was retained for use on the new rifle. Ironically, I have found that sometimes the wood grips on the M1905 bayonet will interfere with the gas cylinder on the Garand and prevent the bayonet from going on, so my experience has been that the M1905 bayonet doesn't always fit on a Garand. I have talked to a few other people that have noted the same thing.

      If I were you I'd wait longer and buy an orignal, it will go better to your M1
      try other sites, international sites...

        Bayonets

        Thank you for your advice.
        I actually have two M1s, both from CMP. A 1943 Springfield and a latter H&R. I already have one bayonet, a 1943 16” that I vaguely remember buying in about 1967 from an advertisement in a comic book (seriously). I think it was $9.99. After seeing listings for broken and incomplete bayonets on Ebay I decided to take the handle off to see if I could fabricate a working lock/release mechanism. Inside I found my initials scratched on the inside of the handles and the dates 1968 and 1971. Guess I’ll hang on to this one.

          In that case, I would look for an M5A1 bayonet. It would go well with the H&R and would be your cheapest option yet.
