    Inland Low Serial Number

    Hi,
I really appreciate the information I'm getting about my small collection of M1 carbines. Here are some photos of another Inland with a six digit serial number 173XXX I would like to know the approximate year of manufacture? It appears to have a type 1 barrel band marked UP, push button checkered saftey, checkered mag release (checkering worn) and flip type rear sight. The barrel marking is very worn, but you can make out the words Inland and faint General Motors, but I can't see the date. The letter P appears lower down. The front sight is marked with the letter N The stock has a crossed canon cartouche, and the left sling area contains the letters HI Nothing has been messed with as far as I know. Thanks in advance for your help.
    Mike

Michael can you post a photo of the receiver an trigger housing without stock!!
It looks that you have a nice Nov,Dec 42,early Jan 43 Inland..The finish looks to be original, stock is not correct for that year, but looks to been mated with receiver for long time.Too be correct a I cut highwood stock would have been used..In my opinion it would look good sitting in any collection...
                        What is the barrel date????

could you also post a pic of the barrel band screw it looks to be non G.I.? the sling swivel is an Irwin Pedersen coded item (high dollar part for someone restoring an Irwin Pedersen carbine) the barrel date could be anywhere from 12-42 to 3-43 area the carbines serial places it in the first quarter of 1943 manufacture. that would be a candidate for a nice Inland highwood I-cut stock. and the mag catch doesn't have worn checkering they weren't checkered; what your seeing is the machine marks from the manufacturing process. if you take the rifle out of the stock on the receiver you should see a two tone effect to the finish on the receiver where it was sandblasted prior to the final finish being applied. nice rifle. best regards
