    M1 Saginaw / Underwood

    Hello,
    I have an M1 Saginaw serial number 1853XXX with an Underwood 9 - 43 (flaming bomb) marked barrel. The condition is very nice, and has an I cut stock. I'm fairly sure that the I cut stock was issued long before this gun was made. But would appreciate your opinions. In addition, I would be interested in knowing if the adjustable sight, flip safety and mag catch are correct for this year? The stock has been sanded, but still contains a bit of the cartouche, and has the letter P in a box on the lower grip section behind the trigger guard. No import markings on this rifle. I'm not sure what else to look for, so please ask questions. I would appreciate a good education.

              Inland I-cut stock that was at one time a Highwood stock. here is the difference between highwood and low-wood stocks.

                Hi,
                I haven't had this one apart in years, I will have to check it and see what the inner markings look like. I did have a feeling that this stock might be an Inland issue. I have a 42 marked Inland low serial number gun that I could slip into this I cut stock, but wanted to be sure of what I had, before making the switch. I just received a bunch of Inland early parts to make most of my Inland complete. Does my Saginaw later issue rifle contain the correct safety and mag release for its series? Thanks in advance for your participation.

                  From the pics no on the safety and the mag catch doesn't look like an early item either.

                    Where did you find the parts for the Inland? I have a very very early Inland I'd like to restore.

                      I had some parts laying around, some parts from a junker. But it turns out that I am still on the wrong track. The parts I thought were correct, are later issue than I had hoped for. However, I'm getting a great education as to what is correct and what is not. The prices keep going up, and pretty soon, the individual parts will exceed what a complete M1 used to cost.

                        I know the feeling. Mt carbine needs type I every thing to restore it. The I cut stock will be the worst. Your I cut stock is even too late for my carbine.

                          Is there only ONE "P" marking on the pistol grip in the wood. If there are more than that and one that is smaller with a line underneath it, it is an arsenal rework. It looks like a very nice original piece of wood, but whether or not it was original to the hardware is another matter.

                            Hi,
                            Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I was on vacation. This stock only has one P marking on it. The crossed canon cartouche is a bit worn but visible. It is a nice stock, but it isn't "high wood". There are a couple of mixed parts, but all WW2 G.I. issue.
