    Walther Flare pistole

    Hi guys,

I have this Walther flare pistol and I would like to have it discussed. It looks very nice, in hand its a great piece. Everything works nicely and its great. Do you think I priced it right on E-stand ?

I can't say for sure but it appears to have been refinished to me. It looks like, in these pictures anyway, that it was pitted and painted over.
I have had 5 or 6 of these in my day, the last being over 10 years ago but these usually went for about $125 then, I wouldn't think that they have increased four-fold in value since then.

Thanks I only have this, no other weapon. The finish in some spots looks like as you say, but when I removed the bakelite grips, it has the same untouched finish. The rivets have been like this for a very long time, if it had another finish, it looks that it is period.

Excellent condition ones with original finish are more than the $125 Denny. Perhaps close to the four fold increase. The finish under the grips is the original finish. It has been painted over.

As I said, it has been over 10 years since I owned one. I never sold one for more than $125 but I am sure the prices have went up over the years. These used to be plentiful at gun shows, 25 years ago they were $50-$75 for excellent ones but that was when wound badges were $20 and plentiful too.

Flare pistol has been painted over and not worth the asking price of over $400. I recently purchased one for $500 and it came with the original holster and cleaning rod...which is worth far more than the Flare pistol itself. Condition is a factor as well as mine was virtually in unissued conditon. The one offered for sale on E-Stand is worn and painted over worth $275 at the most.

As i say im no weapon collector, BUT, if it has been over painted it is done in period that is for sure, it has full patina over all rivets and studs. The paint not just under the grips but far from it, is the same, only in a few spots it shows that it may have been overprinted. I will make some better shots.
