Krupp Rifle. Nazi? Need help

It would make a great poster child to show people the evils of the results of not using gun oil and doing basic maitenance on firearms......I guess I'm not a big fan of truely "un-touched" examples in all cases!!
I think that the point being offered a few posts above is that the rifle was built on a standard 98 receiver and probably a scrubbed military one at that. In my opinion it would date from the later 1940s-1950s. The proofing will tell the story.
The work (wood and metal) is decent on this rifle, but not up to a master gunmaker. The checkering (for example) is not 1st quality. Decent walnut used in the stock, but again only at a basic level.
IMO I rifle like this would be worth around $400. I would have said around $600 if it was not rusted, pitted and had about 90-95% finish remaining.

A couple of us believe that the gun is a pre-war factory hunting rifle. The Krupp-Laufstahl marking seems to indicate such German manufacture. Not all rifles displayed the quality of Mauser; the 1937 Geco catalog featured several such lesser quality (and price) hunting rifles with cheek piece and similar front sight.
But all could be answered with a few more photos and information. But I think Redemption has passed on the rifle and lost interest.
