C96 Mausers were already in use by Imperial German troops prior to WWI. Like the artillery model Luger, most were issued to the fellows assigned to crew served weapons such as artillery and machine gun units. Looking at this young fellow's boots I would guess that he might have been an artillery teamster. If he was he would have been a prime candidate for a broomhandle.

Looks are often deceiving! This guy may have been the baddest "dude" in the outfit! I have known some soldiers who looked about like him who proved very different from what they may appear. Audie Murphy comes to mind as well!

Here is another. This is one of my favorites. It shows a high ranking German officer (possibly a General?) talking with what looks like an observer (binos, and map case on him). The officer is wearing a holster that looks to be a small SLP (possibly a Sauer, or Walther?)
In the forground though is another soldier that clearly has a P38 holster on his belt!! very cool photo, as it doesn't look like it was a "posed" shot.

Here is another photos I just got from one of our fellow members on the estand recently. It isn't a combat photo, but is a very high quality wartime photo of an SS EM. He is wearing a luger holster on his belt.
On reverse of this photo is some writing. Can anyone translate it?
