    German aircraft machine gun sight

    Got this grouping offered to me today for sale on another board, states its a German aircraft machine gun sight,,,also an unusual bayonet, same package,,any ideas on time period on the sight?

    Steve,

    I'm not sure, but what you have may be a sight for the German MG-81z setup. I seem to recall seeing photos of the twin MG-81 setups with a sight similar to this, mounted between the guns and sticking up above them.

    Hope this research suggestion helps a bit.

          Machine gun sight

          Picked it up this morning and both inside surface of spider sight and post sight have remnants of white paint, wonder if it glowed at night when applied, only one marking on the entire rig. Thanks for the help guys

                I've seen this sight before but don't know what it goes to.
                The bayonet is for a Carcano.

                  Yes, it is for the MG81z. A friend of mine purchased it from Steve within a few days of the original post.

                    Could it be an american sight? I remember seeing something very similar in the rear gunner position in the B-17 in the movie Memphis Belle.

                      Take a look at photo #2 and you can see the LWaA inspector's acceptance stamp (under the paint)
