How to fix a MP38/40 bolt handle ?

    Hello,

Well, the bolt handle (early model) came off the bolt of my MP38.

What is the best way to fix it again ?

Welding ? But that needs some after to get it level with the bolt inside ?

    Super glue ?

    Any tip welcome.

    Thanks

      MP38u40 bolt

      Hi,
Is your bolt the early hook type or the MP40 type?
An easy fix would be to glue it - Loctite do various adhesives for metal-to-metal fixing.
I had to refix the handle on an MP40 bolt and the way I succeeded was as follows.
      1) drive out the small pin that locates the sliding outer porion of the bolt-handle i.e. the safety mechanism. Remove outer part without losing the small ball and spring within so you are left with just the solid inner stud.
      2) fit the handle back in the bolt and very firmly clamp the handle in a vise with the body of the bolt resting on top of the vise in its correct position.
      3) with a slightly rounded-end punch that passes through the hole in the bolt opposite the exposed end of the handle you peen over the end of the handle, thus resecuring it in the bolt body.
      3) refit ball, spring and outer sleeve, refit pin and peen over the end to resecure.
If this sounds a bit daunting, revert to "Plan A" - Loctite!
      Good luck

if it came out fix it like Grosfuss advised, if it broke take the handle out of bolt and have an engineer/welder tig weld it back together, it can be done neatly if the right person does it and will require a little bit of hand finishing
