Artillery Luger Holster Shoulder strap

That is a nice looking army double magazine pouch. Here are some photos of a few in my collection for further reference. Wooden based magazines with blued tubes did not appear until late in the Weimar period.

If this is the case how did these come back to NZ in 1919 with a kiwi Soldier and his captured Luger?

That's ninety years in which a lot of things can happen. How are the magazines marked in the wooden bottums?

No nothing was touched, the guy passed the gun on to a friend in 1970 before he passed away , I picked the items up 35 years later and didnt even know the mag pouch had magazines in it as I had only seen it hanging in a display case.

I would give little credibility to that retailer as he is also offering a "first issue Imperial navy magazine" without concentric rings. Such navy magazines do not appear until 1917. Also consider that the seller is a collector of much note, I feel that he is taking advantage of his reputation and the inexperiance of new collectors.

Gentlemen, It seems that I come late to the party! George, You have a stunning collection of Double and Triple Artillery magazine pouches! There are several very rare beauties there...envy troubles me.

Ah..the notorious blued magazine. The first magazines produced were rolled steel nickle plated with wood bottoms. I suspect the nickle provided a smooth slick surface for easier insertion. Then there came along a wartime expedient of rolled steel without the nickle. These tended to collect more deterioration but were cheaper and I suposed worked as well. It is my guess that the Germans decided to blue some of these bare steel mags as a rust preventative but as George says..this occourance was during the quieter years of Weimar.

MG34..The provenance of the Artillery pouch and mags you have is spotty at best from your description. It passed thru some hands before yours. Many things can happen in a short time.

As for Artillery magazines...Just because these came in a double mag pouch dosen't make them Artillery's. They very well could be but they could be regular mags too, just no way to tell like the Navy's.

I owe everyone who contributed to this thread an update on the restoration Jerry was able to do for me. Work done was to repair a broken toe strap and produce a matching reproduction shoulder strap to replace the missing one. I sent Jerry the toe strap for repair as well as a sample for the color the shoulder strap should be. Here is how it was originally.
