Very late war flare gun ??

    Hello All,
    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
On one of my excursions into second hand / marine antique / shipyards,
I discovered (On another day and another country as the SS RZM helmet posted a few weeks ago) this unusual flare (Gun).
    <o></o>
It came with a handful of German WWII flare of witch I only pictured a few to give a size estimate.
    <o></o>
The “Gun” itself looks German WWII style made. In fact, it makes me think of the very late war 1945 Volksturm weapons such as the last model of MP 45 Volksthurmgewher and the German made “Stengun”
    <o></o>
    Or A Booby-trap????

I never encountered one of these before... and don't remember seeing it it a book.
    <o></o>
    Any ideas???
    <o></o>
    Marc

                Hi,

                Nice hand flaregun !!!
This model is described in the book (bible on that matter): Deutsche Leucht- und Signalpistolen (Band 1 & 2) written by Wolfgang Kern.

                keep it safe ;-)

And by the way, end war model .. not a lot of steps to build it

                  Hi again,

After a small night of 'reflexion', (in fact I get a look in my books), I haven't find the same model as yours

There is one based on a M24 stick grenade on which some pices like yours are used (specially the trigger mecanism) ...

So, I'm sorry but I can't confirm you what is the origin of this 'craft' hand flare-gun...

Maybe other members have an idea ?

                  regards

By the way... on other way to explore .. maybe an alarm system or a trap system (that would explain the two pieces with small hole son the tube, so you can attach it to some fixed things...)

                    Hello Marc,

what you have found there is an improvised handheld signaldevice from the Wehrmacht. These signals were made from the frontworkshops. There are existing different versions of this handheld flaredevices. Some were made from the handgrenadestick 24, other like yours were produced completely made of metal. Two differrent versions with pictures and technical data´s are described in the book about german flarepistols and flareammunition from Lorenz Scheit "Deutsche Leucht-und Signalmunition bis 1945" ISBN 978-3-7276-7165-4 from the Stocker Verlag. The two little holder on each part were in original conected with a little chain to keep the two parts together.
                    Best greetings
                    Lorenz

Thank you guys for the update !!!

I’m busy, busy preparing the boat for the start of the Atlantic rally to Europe this Thursday May 7. I will be out of the @mail air until end of June as I mentioned in previous mails. Maybe just a few words from Bermuda in a day or 10 and from the Azores beginning of june...

Yes, I'm far more jealous about the boat than about the flare gun, and I have a couple of nice buckles you would like.

"Bon vent", as we say here Marc.
Ah, and take care about a certain "triangle" there, OK ? Try to post some pics in Die Kneipe when you get the chance.
