help finding a WWII German Luger

    Hey all-

Now that my pistol permit is (finally!) in the works I'm getting ready to purchase my very first pistol, and what better first piece than the one thing I've always wanted ever since my childhood - a WWII German Luger. I'll admit that I do not know much about them and so I am turning to you guys to help get me started on the right track.

I'm looking for a WWII production (1939 - 1945) Luger with matching numbers in good condition, one I can occasionally fire.

If you guys can give me any pointers on where to start, recommend any books to buy or websites I can visit, out that would be great. Also, if you can recommend any reputable dealers that would also be much appreciated, too.

And yes, I'm located in the USA

    Rob

You may also want to try http://forum.lugerforum.com/ or http://luger.gunboards.com/index.php

Both boards have VERY knowledgeable members who specialize in every era of Luger, and their versions of the e-stand always have great deals.

You can get virtually ALL the help you need, at either one.

      Cheers,
      Bob.

        Hi, you could also try:

        www.collectorsfirearms.com (TEXAS)

        www.collectorfirearms.us (NEVADA)

They post some good pieces from time to time, including ww2 lugers.
From what I see, they know their stuff.

        Cheers,
        Duffy

          Hi Rob,
I recomend picking up this months issue of Combat Arms magazine, they have an article on the artillery Luger and give some good history about the luger and have a nice pictorial on how to field strip it. Good luck with you hunt

After you've looked at Simpson's pricing you might have an interest in two that I am selling, a byf 41 and byf 42. Both are 100% original and all matching.

              Hello-

First, thanks for the overwhelming amount of PM's I've received with tips, recommendations, advice - and of course offers. I really, really appreciate it, guys.

I'll have to sort through the various sites I've been sent links too, and familiarize myself with which Lugers are bringing what prices in what condition, etc. Before I do buy anything I want to get a general understanding of the various makes, models, years of production, etc. There's a lot to learn and I don't want to jump in head first before knowing what I am doing.

Bob- thanks so much for the link to the luger forum! Looks like I've got yet another website to waste even more time on

                Rob,

Finding a luger is not hard at all. Finding one that is all matching and original is a bit more difficult, but still not really hard. Finding the $$ to buy one,..........that's a different story!

I've got a nice 1938 s/42 I'll probably be listing on the estand here in the next week or so.

                  Rob,

I'll be at the OVMS Show in Wilmington, OH next weekend . . . and I might be stepping back into the market for collecting Luger pistols again - if I find anything good, I'll be sure to get some contact information for you . . .

If you are looking one to shoot with I wouldn't recommend buying an all matching one, but a refinished one which is much cheaper and you wouldn't risk the integrity of the good collectable one

                      Rob,

What state are you in? When I bought mine I had no idea what I was looking for. The dealer I happened to find was GREAT and helped me out. He told me to walk around the show and let him know what I found and what I liked. We talked for a while and he explained the benefits of a couple I had found elsewhere. I bought one from him which cost me more money than I originally planned on spending, but now that I have it, I know the guy did me a favor. He told me he'd let me trade it in on one of the cheaper ones later on if I wanted, but he knew I wouldn't be back. When I got home and put photos of it on the net, guys told me I did fine on the price and it would be hard to replace it since they're so collectable. I shot 2 or 3 mags through it, cleaned it up, and put it in my cabinet. I couldn't be more happy.

If you're in PA or anywhere close I will PM you his info. He keeps a couple in stock from less than $1k on up (and up and up and up). I wanted to mention this because there are still apparently dealers out there who want buyers to be happy.

By the way, mine is an all original matching byf41 with both matching mags and an original holster. The only thing I wish it had was the capture papers.

                      Craig

I am planning on being there on Saturday. Is this a good show for guns? I am in the market for an all matching 98k. Sorry, if I am hijacking this thread
