Question about stock marks

Hello all;
I have a russian capture S/27 1938. After I got the russian shallack off you can now see stamps in the stock. Just under the take down bolt you can see an eagle with an H under it, then a large eagle with the #77, then a slightly smaller eagle with the #77. Just below the triger gard on the stock the pattern of large with 77 and small with 77 is repeated. Then the same again a little futher down about halfway between the c and the shoulder. Right above the last is the number 6013. I am sorry that I don't know the correct terms, but does anyone know what the stock marking mean? I have had a few russian captures before, but never one with so many markings in the stock.

Hi Christian,

Your rifle was made by Erma (S/27), the 77 markings with an eagle above are waffenamt (weapons office) inspection stamps. The 77s are proper for Erma. The eagle over "H" means Heer (German Army) and the number under the rear portion of the stock should be the serial number of the rifle.

Leon is correct. What you have here is a solid walnut stock, with the straight medal butt plate. Early K98s the solid walnut stocks such as this with the straight medal butt plates. Latter stocks were laminated.
Yes, it's true some very late war K98s do have solid stocks, but they have the cupped butt plate instead.

The early stocks like this (just like the early rifles), are loaded with proof markings. I've handled litterally thousands of RC rifles. The early solid stocks are the best quality, and full of markings.

Just a side note to add. 2 years ago, when I looked through 8,000 RC rifles, I found only one stock that was "eagle/M" marked!
