    German Sniper Scope

    Can anyone tell me if this Gerard Scope would have been used in WW2
    these are commercial made in the 1920s early 1930s, it came with suhler
    bases, double claw mounts, it fits the K98 perfectly.What are these worth.

      They used them when they had to in a pinch, but wihout seeing the retical, hard to say more about it. A military serial number should have been applied some place, but in war time that could have been over looked. The condition tells me this one was not used in the war, espec the case as pristine as it is.

            Nobody have any comments on mine? it has the objective mounts as used
            by the SS, it has the three post recticle sight, military serial number.

              I have a similar example to the one you have shown made by Otto Boch in WW1. It's in very good order with original case, leather covers & claw mounts. I believe they are valued at around the US$250 to 450.00 range.
              Many pre WW2 converted Gew98's used these scopes & were popular with SS & Heer snipers as were early K98's with pre war commercial SSR mounts & scopes.
              Value is based on provanance with these items. They are reasonably easy to obtain ( as a commercial scope ) but if you have one that can be attributed as a military issue sniper scope, then like everything else, the price will reflect this. As you will appreciate, war time examples are very desirable & command a handsome price.

                The issue with commercial optics and mounting systems is that they were prolifically manufactured and utilized by German shooters pre/post war. There are also certain configurations (like LSR, HT, SB, etc.) unique to military spec. However, the military did utilize some commercial optics. Military spec optics are typically marked, coded as such and fall into consistent serial ranges. Commercial optics utilized by the military also follow patterns. The vast majority of commercial optics and mounting systems we see on the forums are not military related.

                  So did a lot of commercial systems. What military serial are you speaking of?

                      I had thought that AJACK had gone to a non adjustable scope at around number 40,000. Maybe they still made some with the adjustable focus in the early period or maybe I am wrong about the number range that they changed designs.

                      I think that the scope might date around 1940-41 or maybe even 1942. I know that by 1943 they were using Ajacks in the mid 40s range.

                        The serial number is nothing to do with other maker scopes it as best
                        early 1930s as they stopped making this model then.
