    ID of MG belt?

Can anyone identify this machinegun belt? I think it is a WWII German "Gurt 17/81" for use in the Luftwaffe's MG 17 and MG81, but I would appreciate confirmation from any knowledgeable persons.

    Thanks,

    Alan

Here are a few photos of a Gurt 17/81 section that a WWII vet gave to me. I know it is the "real deal" because he took it from a Luftwaffe base where his Fighter Group (flying P-51D's) was stationed at or near war's end.

Notice the difference in the links, from the empty belt above.

Detail of markings on the AP/tracer ammo. My understanding is that these are special high-velocity rounds with special bullets, loaded for the Luftwaffe's use in aircraft machineguns.

Again, any information on the empty belt or the vet bring-back section w/ ammo would be most appreciated.

                Hi,

the first one is a Gurt 17 and the second one is a 17/81.

                Fab.

                  Fab,

Thanks for the ID on the belt.

BTW: Do you happen to know whether the Gurt 17 will function in an MG-34?
