    S&W 3rd model Russian

Hi guys! See what I found recently - a 3rd Russian model S&W! Sadly, this fine gun has been taken apart and almost nothing is left! Still this is some base, I hope to be able to replicate the major parts, just to look more complete, for display. After all, badly preserved, but still piece of history! Do you know, are there schematics or blueprints available for the parts of this model?

    Hi Theodor,

Yes there are schematics available for these. Are there any stamps on the butt?

    Cheers

No, nothing preserved. It has been rusty and long ago someone sanded it /saying long ago, because the metal darkened again through the years/. Quite good work, because the shape and the edges are not so bad preserved after the work, but the barrel text and the series number from the handle are gone.

It doesn't say in your profile where you reside but if you are in the U.K. the gun will have to be deactivated as it's still classed as a firearm.

            Incorrect Les.

Revolvers chambered in .44 Russian are exempt under Section 58(2) of the Firearms Act and do not need deactivating.

Yes - here anything pre-1870 is free of any deactivation or even registration I mean, the production date does not matter, it is the model. For example, Berdan II made in the late 1880s is legal and free.

                  Hello Again,

I agree with Ade a very interesting piece. The Russians bout 250,000 of them in the early 1870's (they were shipped by Schuler Hartley and Graham if memory serves) and they were used for quite awhile. There are even reports of them being used during WWII(the one that I had was a German capture). Restoration will be a challenge if you go that route but personally I would leave it as it is.

                  Cheers
