All the "new" intrest in WWII has driven the prices up but if you shop around you can find fairly priced items, I bought this matched Radom for $320.00 last weekend.

        Nice looking Radom Warren!
and great job finding such a good deal for it. That is what I've been trying to tell people!

You'll get a good laugh if you check out auctionarms right now. There is a guy there that has three Radoms for sale. All are ridiculously priced!

Paul- The answer is no. These P38s I mentioned are way overpriced. Also, there is no such thing as a "cyq44"? Spreewerk did not date their pistols. Unless you have a Spreewerk P38, with a Browning made, "AC44" marked slide?(rare!)

          Matt,
You know whats really sad, someone is going to pay this guys price. The dealer I bought this from had two more one with the replacement wood grips, all just a little over 300.00. He also had a beautiful Colt 1911 for $700.00, I wish I'd had more cash on hand.
There are a lot of people out there with lots of money and they don't hesitate to spend it on what they want. It reminds of comic book collecting in the 1990's when thousands of people jumped in driving up prices on comics that were straight off the press. Some of the first issue comics of a new series or storyline were selling for 100's of dollars, it was ridiculous so I dropped out of collecting them, couldn't afford to do both militaria and comics.

            Warren,

I would be really surprised if this guy sells these RAdoms for those prices!

Now back to the original subject of this thread.

Just picked up an all matching, non-import, "byf44" K98, with minty bore for only $750! It just goes to show you that there are still some good deals out there! You just have to look!

                A bit of a shame

Although I am a relatively new member here, and do not know either of the gentlemen involved in the sharp exchange on our firearms forum, I have been collecting for a long time, and this exchange has brought home to me some of the problems I have seen in our hobby over the years.
                1. That too many collectors begin to operate their collecting as a "business" with the attendant thought process.
                2. That even two obviously advanced collectors (and probably pretty decent guys) can fall prey to this phenominon, and animosity ensues.

Perhaps before anyone leaves the forum or resigns a position, they should have a couple cold ones, spend a few hours fondling their collection (or wife or girlfriend) and remenber why most of us have an interest in these subjects to begin with, and how much we owe and can gain from each other.
Hoping not to step on any toes, and just some humble thoughts,
                Johnnie

Johnnie I think you are right on. Sometimes bad deals happen, even between good people. I hope Brian reconsiders.

Just to let everyone know. I have deleted several posts on this thread that did not pertain to the subject (mine included!).

Also I wanted to let everyone know that we will no longer dicuss prices on other peoples weapons.
If you have a weapon of your own, and would like to share the cost of it, that is fine.
If you have a weapon that you are interested in purchasing, and would like to know if the price is fair, that is fine too. Just don't give the name of the seller, the website, or auction number of the item. Simply state the details of the weapon, and the sellers asking price.
Sellers have a right to thier privacy, and also have the right to price thier items at whatever they wish.
I have edited this thread and deleted all mentions of prices on other peoples weapons that are for sale.

This should be fair to everyone involved. I hope that everyone is now content.

Nope...they haven't all risen like this. Three weeks ago I bought a non-import marked, non-RC, non-matching number dot 1944 for $200.00. It has a really nice laminated stock and a very good bore.

Nope....they're only running at the prices you see because morons are willing to pay the ridiculous price.

I was no sooner picking my Mauser off the vendor's table when a guy walked up to me asking me if I'd just bought the Mauser. I answered affirmatively....and he told me that a couple minutes sooner and he would have sold me matching number 1944 something-or-other for $450.00. I told him to go pound salt !

Hey, I'm not paying ridiculous prices for Mausers. The prices on RC's are freakin' ridiculous actually. And the Internet is driving these prices.

So....have some patience....start attending gun shows.....and you'll find a nice, reasonable weapon. I found mine at the first gun show I attended in many years.

                          Good luck guys.

                            Dan,
You are absolutely right. There is still a TREMENDOUS ammount of collectible 98K's floating around out there, that can be had at a reasonable price. Like you say, it is just a matter of being patient, enjoying the research part of the hobby, and refusing to pay moron prices.
And like you, I refuse to pay tripple what something is worth just to "have it now".
And if we can get enough collectors to begin thinking like that, who knows?
                            Just my humble thoughts,

                              Dan and Johnnie,

You guys are both correct! However, Johnnie, I think it would take an aweful lot of collectors to think like us in order to drive the prices down!
The problem is there is too many well do collectors out there who don't mind paying the price for items that they want/need to complete there collection.
I used to collect badges and insignia, and it was the same way.

I don't even know why we call dealers, "dealers" any more? They certainly don't deal with you at all! Most of them have a set price, and you pay that, and that's all! Not much dealing going on any more! Luckily I do know a few dealers that still deal, but there aren't any in my town! The closest one is an hour drive, and the second one is 2 1/2 hours away!

                              Matt

BTW Johnnie, I do fondle my collection almost every day. That is why the wife gets so pissed at me!

                                Hi Matt,
Yes, you are right. There does seem to be a group of well to do collectors that have been driving up prices ridiculously over the past few years. Someone posted a comment about the "new" interest in WW2 having a part in it, and I agree. I have met and talked to some of the "new" types, and they all seem to have two things in common ie. a lot of disposable income, and a "impulse buy attitude" sort of like "WOW, Nazi Mauser, Gotta have it, cool, buy it now". And they never really know much about what they are really buying. No resaerch at all. I'm not trying to sound arrogant or condecending to anyone, but a lot of these folks are not what I consider "collectors" inststead, I call them "aquireres".
I DO think this board and others like it DO help when members post the names of reasonable as well as unreasonable dealers to spread the word so to speak.
                                Just my humble thoughts.
BTW, I have the same "fondle" issue over my collection with my wife too! LOL.
                                Happy collecting.
                                Johnnie
