Enfield No4 Rifle 1944 M/47C

The serial number on the butt socket is only 4 digit L3096 correct BSA Shirley prefix 3 to start but if you look above their is a faint serial number above
L30961 possibly due to the larger letters they had no space left for the last digit?

Dated 1944 should these have the grooved hand guard?
