Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Provides that any person
who owns a firearm in this State shall maintain a policy of liability
insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any
damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such
firearm while it is owned by such person. Provides that a person shall be
deemed the owner of a firearm after the firearm is lost or stolen until such
loss or theft is reported to the police department or sheriff of the
jurisdiction in which the owner resides. Provides that the Department of
State Police shall revoke and seize a Firearm Owner's Identification Card
previously issued under this Act if the Department finds that the person to
whom such card was issued possesses or acquires a firearm and does not
submit evidence to the Department of State Police that he or she has been
issued in his or her name a liability insurance policy in the amount of at
least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent
or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such
person. Effective January 1, 2010.

The legalese for the term: 'such firearm" would lead me to believe that the one million dollar insurance would have to be for each firearm owned. That could be a bit of a tidy sum for the annual premium for the average guy and gal.

It is just another way to register and tax your firearms. You will just register them with the insurance company and with the state, to have coverage linked to an individual firearm.

Clever people, these Marxists.

i am still in IL. Chicago lawmakers are still trying to ban guns elsewhere. Why dont they just ban guns in chicago. Oh wait, they already have. I now live in Aurora which bans assault weapons, slingshots, and airsoft. I envy the other states.

.... criminals... they always find a way to get a fire arm so what's the point of this fire arms ban?
please explain me, if according to the above law, if someb shoots a burglar with his legally detained handgun, can he be sued for compensation?

That pesky 2d Ammendent. If you can't get rid of it you can try to make it cost prohibitive. Since cars kill more people than guns why don't they put this requirement on those?

Simple, cars can not be used to protect citizen's property (and families) and that is exactly where the Left is headed once the firearms are removed.

Gun control has never been about crime reduction, that is a smoke screen for the stupid and un-informed. We are now almost postured by "law" for the goverment siezure or at least forced silent partner interest in private property and businesses. This goal has been a constant but under the radar agenda of the group now controlling this country for decades.

I have a few uppers and lower assemblies on the way for AR-15 builds. It is time now, or never in the future. I would suggest anyone that is going to do some builds needs to get going on buying the necessary parts soon. They will not be available in the future will be my guess.

First I doubt there will be many insurance company's that would offer this, 2nd anyone thought what the cost would be of such a policy? Not to mention it would create a automatic sue scenerio.
Such a policy with that insured amount could never be afforded by most middle class citizens. I would imagine it would be several thousand a year.

Yes, the new breed of anti gun politicians will not make firearms illegal, instead make them too costly for anyone to own except for the most wealthy.

Of course, none of this will, nor would affect criminals. But fighting crime is not the intention anyway. "We don't want to take your guns away." Nope, they will just make it so we cannot afford them or any ammunition.
