    Uk Ban on deact guns

I just thought id keep anyone interested up to date.I signed the online petition a while ago and this is the response so far:

    Read the Government’s response
Thank you for signing the E-Petition about plans to introduce legislation to control deactivated firearms.
The Home Secretary’s announcement last year follows police concerns about the increasing use of deactivated guns in crime. Of particular concern are guns de-activated before 1995, when tough new standards were introduced for the de-activation of live guns, making them harder to re-activate.
The Government is aware that many deactivated guns are owned by genuine and responsible collectors, and does not want new legislation to impact on these people unfairly. However, the police have suggested that the use of deactivated firearms in crime has increased, and this is something which the Home Secretary is keen to tackle.
The Government will soon be consulting on the best way forward, to allow genuine collectors to continue while depriving criminals of the opportunity to misuse deactivated guns. This will be a public consultation and the consultation paper will be available on the Home Office website: www.homeoffice.gov.uk. You will be very welcome to send a response with your views on this important issue.

Hi Chris, just some ammo if you take this forward, no matter what the government does it will not change a thing, I used to shoot handguns at a national standard before they actually banned them, lots of gun club members lost guns, a hobby, sport the GB small arms squad could not train and what did it achieve!! nothing there was more handgun crime after they banned them than there ever was, even today handgun crime is at its peak so to me its just another copout, lets pick on the easiest target and pronounce how good we are. Anyway thats me off my soap box

I know exactly what you mean my grandad was a keen pistol shooter/owner and he handed all of his over including one (i forget which) that had a unique carving on the grip but as they could not match it/id it for compo he got a fraction of what it was worth.,he says he was planning to take me when i had reached my teens but this ban came in just before i made it

The criminal fraternity will always get guns into the uk. anyone whos ever driven to france and back can see how lax the customs checks are i could not believe it. i was the only one who got searched because i was in a van and people could have been hiding in it. ALL the cars were just waved through who knows what could have been in the boot. That is how a lot of guns come to this country from the eastern reaches of europe.
Extreme sentences for gun posession is whats needed 20 years for intention to use and LIFE for murder our country is just to soft on people some lunatic even suggested this week that the yorkshire ripper is ready for release ffs. the people who suggest that sort of thing should be locked up.
sorry to rant on but i am sick of the few ( extremely small amount of people) who constantly mess everyones enjoyment up.

its as ben said there is more gun crime now than ever , in the past couple of weeks just in my local area the local lunatics have been letting off guns in pubs and last year a mate of mine seen a guy with a live ak47 with a pile of ammo trying it out by shooting thru a steel sheet its great around here im sure banning deacts wont stop the shootings like banning knives on ebay it wont stop the stabbings

The situation in the UK is a very sad one indeed and sincerely hope that no other European government tries to mimic . Soon they will also ban airsoft with the same excuse, then all knives because of stabbings, then they will turn to forks, toothpicks ...... and what about cars? They can kill too. If they can also chops one's arms off.
Time has proved that banning guns did not solve the problem, but made it increased , cause no licenced gun owner will use his firearm for criminal acts. It's a known fact that criminals use illegal guns. The British authorities are knocking the wrong door and hitting the law abiding citizen instead of the criminals. Possibly they are doing this to look like they are doing something in the eyes of the public and anti gun lobbists.
Thank God we are allowed to have fully functional firearms here in Malta, and we want to make sure that we keep it that way. I'd hate to see my collection and years of investment taken from me.
All UK clubs and collectors should get together and lobby against this silly move by the UK Government. A group of people with strong negotiating skills must be identified to negotiate with the authorities against further bans/restrictions. Use the media to educate people on the interesting history and wealth behind firearm collecting without interfering with the mechanics of the firearm. Show that you are no criminals or thugs. PR skills are vital.
We do alot of that here, meeting politicians of all sides regularly, make them understand what our hobby is all about and even get media coverage on shows, activities, achievements, etc , thus keeping the public educated too. Mind you, we still have those who write all sorts of nonsense about gun ownership, and try to twist the facts to scare the public .

Its called "Getting Tough on Crime" , criminals still seem to be able to get guns - I wonder how many are WW2 guns ?

There is no point in flogging a dead horse. Move to Canada, you can have as many guns here as you like. Moving to Saskatchewan was the best thing I ever did.

Criminals will fight back. Citizens, like sheep, will just give in. The government apparantly is not looking for a fight.

Better still, move to Malta. It's nice and sunny and you can own as much pre 1946 full active firearms as you want, as long as you have a clean police conduct and approved as a genuine collector by a club . Local collectors are having a feast with some great historical firearms. A local dealer just confirmed an outstanding list of items he is getting and they include :

I rang ebay the other day just to clarify what there policy is on the sale of knives and swords (i have been a naughty boy and got a telling off for putting a german helmet on there site for sale it must have been the only one on because as you know there are no german helmets on e bay for sale ) anyway they stated that they were only selling kitchen/cutlery knives on there site.I then asked if they could explain the seven pages of fake chinese swords they had on there at that present time at which point they put down the phone.

Now i may not be the brightest candle in the drawer but if i was going out one night to stab someone thinking what shall i take with me either a 3 foot samurai sword strapped to my belt walking down the street or should i concele a nice kitchen steak knife on my person i think i would go for the legal steak knife but maybe thats just me.
                          cheers Gaz

                            Regards Craig.
