Pick a gun out that fits you best, and is comfortable to shoot. Most major name brands are all good. Gene mentioned the Glock 17, which is pretty good, along with the G19, and G21.

I would recomend the Sig, and also the Walther P99 (totally awesome gun!!). Another good one is the H&K USP. Also remember that Sig owns Mauser, and the new Mauser M2 is an excellent pistol, however I heard that there is a waiting list to order one!

All of these are the best quality, accurate, and durable. Try all of them, and pick out the one that fits you best! If you are sticking with 9mm, you might want to check out a compact as well!?

although this thread is pretty much dead'n'buried, I'd like to ask about the lacquered cartridges that Gene mentioned.

I thought the problem with these was as the chamber heated through use, the lacquer would begin to melt and become sticky and therefore prevent the spent cartridge being ejected or the next cartridge from loading properly, but more so on ejection due the expansion of the spent cartridge?

I seem to remember this was a problem with the lacquered cartridges that the wehrmacht used towards the end of the war. Am I correct or way off base?

I would recommend the HK USP. I have the compact version .40S&W, love the gun what a piece of precision.
