I have a k 98 that I am thinking of trading in on the pp walther that I am buying. I have 2 the first is strait mod. 98 with waff, stamps and eagle over swastika. code marked byf for mauser. the second the one that I am thinking of trading is a little strange on the left side of the barrel it has the serial no. 1835 then just ahead of it tward the muzzle is the eagle over the swastika. on the same side going back is what looks like a eagle with outstreached wings made in stick forum, then just behind is the serial no. is 1835 and under it is a script letter c, on the top of the barrel just behind the sight ramp is the letter s behind that and a little to the right is a triangle with a circle inside, behind that is the no. 37. on the top of the reciever is the letter s/147/G, on the right side just behind the sight ramp is the letter k behind that is what looks like 3 waffen stamps with the nos.206? 211 and 206? behind that is the letters Do8 and some other letters or nos. that go around under the stock, on the reciever is the same stick eagles 3 of them with the nos. 116 115 114 under them. no mod. 98 on this one. it does have the import stamps on it stock is laminated bent bolt, could some one tell me if this is a common item or something I should hang on to. and if common or rare what is the value in very good [nra] condtion. it is all in working condtion and has no missing parts excpt for the sight hood cleaning rod and the shoulder strap. I have fired it and everything works fine. what would be a good trade price for it? thanks much.

First of all, I must know if these K98 are all matching, non-imports!
The information you gave about both of these doesn't really tell us anything other than you have one "byf" (not even sure what date, since you didn't mention it?), and you have a "S/147" (Sauer), G-date K98?
Let me just say this. If both of these rifles are all matching, non-imports, I wouldn't trade either one of them for a Walher PP! (unless it is an SA, NSKK, or one of the government models such as the Tirolean PP, RRZ, or RJ models?)
However, if they are both mis-matched rifles, then I would trade either one of them for a Walther PP (all matching of course!)
Value depends on these 5 things:
1. All matching or not
2. import marked or not
3. condition (finish, wood, and bore)
4. maker and date
5. any rare markings, such as: police, Kreigsmarine, SS.....

k98
both of them have import marks and the one mauser I for sure am keeping. the s/147/G I am thinking of trading. so I will try to give you a better picture of the rifle, import marks yes. on barrel underneath just behind the front sight, matching barrel and reciever, front barrel band, mag. floorplate match, bolt does not and neather does the plate above the floor plate with the screws condtion is in [nra very good .]I am sure you guys no that that means no broken parts and not more than 30% original finish left. when the nra description says no replacement parts I take it to mean modern parts not wartime mismatch, correct me it I am wrong here. the wood has no major dings missing parts or cracks, no cracks at all, wood has dings and digs consistant with heavy usage.very brown with time and oils.the bore is in good condtion very shootable but not exclent shape. lands and groves are still good although not sharp, but not shot out.as far as markings go the only one that I did not post was a circule with a sidways s or check with the check [if that is what it is] starting from the left going to the right. this mark shows two times once on the sight rear. the second in on the right side of the barrel. this is a low serial no. could it be that the imperial style eagles are from the early third reich days? 33 to 39? if any one wants to see pictures I can send them to an email address. btw what is a duffel bag cut?

So basically they are both mis-matched import rifles right?
In that case, I would trade either one of them for an all matching non-import Walther PP! Since a Walther PP as you descibed would be worth at least $600, and these MM import K98s in the condition you described can be brought anywhere for under $350! If the Walther is really really nice, then I might even trade both of these rifles for it. But if the guy only wants one of them, then by all means go for it!
You can't go wrong with either one then.
That is just my opinion.
Matt
FYI- Duffle cuts are found on vet bring back rifles. The GIs had to cut the stock in order to fit the stock into thier duffle bags. Since these two rifles are imports, they should not have a duffle cut stock.Last edited by Matt Weber; 10-29-2003, 12:40 PM.

thanks
thanks, I am not sure if I want to sell the rifle, as I paid only a hundred for it. I am going to pick up the pistol eather way. I also have an arbietsbuck fur ausslander he wants to look at. if he will give me 50 for it twards the gun. I have been wanting a pp or ppk third reich era for a long time they are getting hard to find and the price goes up each year. I have learned to grab good items at good prices even if it streaches the wallet, you can get your money back fairly easy later, will post photos when I get back tonight.
