    I have a question on this rifle pertaining the "X" on the rifle butt. I am assuming that this may be a re-work stamp and not something else.

      The XXXX was one method the germans used to cancel the old serial number out.

        He may be referring to the tiny x at the bottom of the serial #. (on the butt plate) I have been curiose of that x myself. I guarantee it is not a Russian capture. geopop

          Oh, that X. That would be part of the serial number 3948x from the original rifle the stock came from.

            Yes gents that was what I was referring to. I fully understand the X through the numbers, but the solo Xs were what I was talking about on the buttstock end plate.
