    P-38 Holster Good/Bad?

I was hoping someone on the forum could tell me if this is a good WWII P-38 holster, or is a post war repo. It is marked DLU 1945. Thanks for the help. Jon

I have never seen one quite like that one. It is different than usual by the flap usually covers the spare mag but it may be something special. The color doesn't look like any late war holster that I have seen. Maybe someone with a code book could tell you if that is a legit code.
It appears to be well made if it is a reproduction, it looks as if they would have reproduced a standard model and not an odd one.

I do not claim to have an iota of the knowledge of Phild or Matt Weber, but the stamps are waaaay deeper than anything I have ever seen, plus a clearly marked 1945 holster would be verrry rare indeed.

I have no problem with this holster.
The modification of the flap was sure not factory-done.
This is my DLU 1944. Still with WaA

              Hi Jon,

Interesting holster. I have never seen a WWII P.38 military holster of that color. The flap modification is odd also. The texture of the leather is different. Most all the German soft shell P.38 holsters I have seen have very smooth leather unless they are pebble grained.

Do you have a picture of the holster from the side or can you tell me if a P.38 mag fits the spare mag pouch pretty well or is the mag somewhat smaller than the spare mag pouch?

              Regards, Leon

I personally don't see anything wrong with this holster. (other than the fact that it has been cut down on the front flap).

It's a shame someone "altered" this otherwise minty looking brown 1945 dated holster.

                  I think it's a period one

Sometimes I think maybe I should just shut up and listen.

Just wanted to thank everyone for there comments. To answer Leon's question, a P-38 mag fits snugly in the pouch. Thanks again, Jon

I think I solved the mystery, right above the mag pouch you can see a round circle imprinted into the leather. When I put a luger mag into the pouch it matches up with the circle. Some one modified it to fit a luger.

Now that makes more sense! I didn't see the circle imprinted just above the mag pouch when I first looked at it. But now that you mentioned it, I can make it out, and it does appear that someone cut this flap down to fit a Luger mag in it. Does it have luger wear markings on the inside as well?

                              Sneakerd,

There was certainly nothing wrong with what you stated above. The markings are deep in this holster, but different types of leather take a stamping better than others. As Leon stated, this is definately a different type of "texture" to it. Its probably is softer, and took the stamping better than other leathers (such as the one shown above by madandi).
