K 98

[Sandman]

I have recently purchased a K 98. The side of the receiver was marked as:

42 WaA63 WaA655 WaA655



These markings were easily found, 42 Mauserwerk Oberndorf 1938 - 39.
However, the other marks I am having problems finding are the these:










I would be grateful to those of you who are knowledgeable about these other proof stamps, if you can help me identifiy these, or point me in the right direction to find them on my own I would really appreciate it.

Appears to be Eagle/N which is a commercial (v. military) gun. The barrel sequence of numbers indicates maker, date, and lot number and was made in '38.

The rear sight sleeve is an armorer part, and the blank receiver (Walther made) would suggest assembled at a depot and not a factory. Show the fire proof on the left side and rear sight serial too...

Was also underneath covered by the wood This was followed by three more Waffenamt with the center number having an * underneath as seen here. The rifle is all original with the matching serial number of 110.

Thanks Bob I appreciate the help as I have posted on a couple of forums now and I have had people tell me it was 1943, I don't think they have been entirely honest with me. I have taken the rifle to my gunsmith. The only one I really trust. I have had a number of people look at it, and I have gotten all kinds of answers. Some were laughable. Some I could tell were out right lying to me.

Is there somewhere I can go, recommend a book perhaps to find out more about these "commercial" rifles? This has been mentioned before, but I haven't been able to find this myself.

maybe you missed pics even though the barrel is dated 1938 it clearly shows a 3-43 build date!!?? there really isn't a book that just talks about commercial rifles such as these. there is a SPORTING book but no wartime book for the type you have pictured. i am very suprised this a clear commercial example i can only image the crazy miss-inforamtion you have received.
