I bought a mauser 98K from a local gunstore. The owner said it was made for the Portugese army by Mauser but at the last minute it was put in the German army inventory. It was made in 1941 and had the crown of Portugal on the reciever but it had Nazi markings throughout the gun. If if was Nazi stamped, was the gun used by the German army ? Thanks for any help.

Somewhere I have seen a nice long list of the designations (eg., K98) the Germans gave to a variety of foreign Mausers they used during WW2. I thought I saw it here but haven't been able to turn it up in a search. If I can figure out where I saw it, it would at least give some kind of clue if Portugese guns were listed. I was impressed at the length of the list and the variety of countries represented. WHERE did I see that? I'll keep looking ...
