    WW2 Naval Luger, presentation???

    I have a 1939 dated naval luger with rear adjustable sights, made by dmw.
    Serial #843, 6 inch barrel, rear adjustable sights, walnut grip with naval magazine
    There is an engraved eagle and swastica engraved on the side plate. This gun has all the components of a military luger, lanyard loop, grip safety and stock attachment.
    anyone have a clue if this could be a presentation piece? If the company did the factory engraving? A gift to a naval officer? Again the barrel is dated 1939.

      DWM reorganized and became BKWI (?) (sold?) in the very early 1930s. By 1934 the old DWM Luger machinery and line was running at Mauser ...as the Luger tooling had been sold off as well.

      6 inch barrel, adjustable rear sight Naval Lugers were no long made after 1918, I believe. There may have been the odd one assembled or reworked in the 1920s but nothing like that that I have ever heard of even close to 1939.

      I'm guessing a Naval DWM toggle and a 1939 Mauser receiver, with a 6 inch barrel from somewhere (what are the proofs on the barrel?) and who can guess about the origin of the frame?

      If the numbers match, I would look carefully for signs of old number removal and new number stampings.

      On a re-read it sounds like the frame may be an original Navy. The 1939 date is the problem...as that gun should pre-date 1919. No need in saying it, but photos will be required to have a chance to figue it out...good or bad.

        I recall seeing something of that description in an old Guns and Ammo photo spread of some Shattuck material as I recall. I will check my folder of clippings tonight.

          will post pics once site changes to new server. Parts all have matching numbers. (on those that have numbers) Ive had this for years and finally curious enough to try to find why it is dated 1939 with an engraved eagle/swastica on side plate. Has a large safety lever on the back of the handle. It is picturebook perfect of a WW1 naval luger except for the large engraved eagle and the 1939 on the upper receiver.

                      Sorry to tell you that but this is a parts gun, transformed into a fantasy piece. By 1939 the Lugers were all being made by Mauser and thus marked.
                      The frame, toggle and rear sights came from an original Imperial Navy (a model 1906). In fact, even the left side of the frame seems to still bear fainted Crowned M proofs. But, the "nazi parrot" and the wrong date are a kiss of death.

                        May I make a suggestion? Try to edit and select your photographs before uploading. Then you won't be posting out of focus shots.

                        The Guns and Ammo article by Shattuck featured a finely engraved Imperial LP08 with eagle inlaid in the left grip.

                        From what I can tell from the photos you posted, the piece seems to be a reblued parts gun featuring a 04/06 Naval Luger frame and toggle assembly mated to a 1939 Mauser receiver with an added length barrel. The engraved eagle is not the best quality and I have a hard time think that this was created during the III Reich period for some officer. The stock and holster appear to be modern repros. How long ago did you acquire it?

                          Navalgunner, technically it is a violation of federal laws to attach the reproduction Artillery model stock to your Navy type Luger. Either a real or reproduction naval stock would be legal. Go figure.

                            The stock and the holster rig are repros. I didnt pay alot for the Luger so I figured that it maybe a fantasy piece,,, but you never know without asking...
                            I do have a good time at the range with its a fun piece to shoot.
