1911 22 conversion kit by colt?

    HI All,

What is a 1911 22 conversion kit by colt worth. It is parkerized and I think it might be pre 1950s?

    Thanks in advance!

No one knows? I am being offered one and would like to know. I have searched the net and have not found any other then off brand ones for $400.

    Thanks,

      Hi Bill,

I am unfamiliar with conversion units that have been parkerised. What type of box is it in? There are a couple of generations of Colt Conversions and they are worth some pretty good money if complete and non altered. What color is the parkerising? Pictures would help a great deal.

Here are some pics. The slid had a 2 stamped on the underside near the front.

          Thanks,

            Hi Bill,

Ok, it has been refinished and that hurts it quite a bit. I assume there is no box? I believe this is the second generation conversion unit made in the 50's, though I could very well be wrong as it has been a long time since I did anything with these. Regardless it is not truly collectable and 400 is about what it is worth. As you have noted the Ciener and other conversion units out there are getting expensive. I would ask to test it to make sure it is functional and then if you just wanted a shooter I think it would be fine.

            Cheers

              Hi Gary,

Thanks for the info. I do not think it is refinished though as the detail is too crisp in all the lettering. Also the bottom of the magazine is parkerized like the slide and barrel. There is no box but the barrel looks like it has never had a round through it. I am sure it will work and think I will pick it up!

              Thanks again!

                Hi Bill,

If you look at the word conversion you can see where the letter e is very faint as is the Rampant Colt logo. It has been refinished. The original color of parkerising that would have been used when this one was made was a olive green whereas this is grey. That is from the 1980's in my opinion. Additionally the whole magazine would have been parkerised, not just the bottom. But as you say, if it works, who cares.

                Cheers

here's a set from my collection.

ironically... I was going to post and ask for a value too.

                    My conversion looks mint/unused, etc.
