                Hi Shawn,

Your P.38 was made by Walther in early 1944. The plated finish is not original. They were all blued. The plated finish may have been done by the vet that captured it or done post war.

Your CZ27 is a later variation. The next variation didn't have the manufacturer's info on the top of the slide. A later variation had a phosphate finish. Your's has a nice finish.

                Regards, Leon

Thanks very much.I see you are from TX,I picked these up in Abilene today along with a whole mess of stuff.
How bad does it hurt the value of the pistol being plated?

                    Hi Shawn,

It basically reduces the value to that of a shooter. It's too bad but those pistols didn't have much value to the vets. They saw many thousands during the war. You see holsters that would be worth many hundreds of dollars today with eagles and pips installed on them. That's just what happened.

                    Regards, Leon

I agree the plating kills any collector's value. It's now a shooter piece. The CZ27 is a nice piece though.
