Quick k98 question

What would be the purpose of an extra recoil lug behind the trigger area, I have seen this on a few 98s . . . ?

The extra recoil lugs are seen exclusively on some Russian-capture K98s, as far as I have seen. During the re-arsenaling process of these captured weapons; for whatever reason, they felt it was necessary to add an extra recoil lug behind the trigger. Why they thought that this was I good idea, I have no idea.
