perhaps a sighting and elevation device for a mortar?or an artillary piece

Looks to me a german richtkreiB with missing parts.

Hi Neckar

Looks like it may be a very damaged RK31. Iam basing this on the fold out ruler which is an identifier for this unit. Thier is however a lot of damage as the complete casting appears to be broken away.

They were used for obtaining bearings and back bearings to targets and the actuall weapons used . Ie mortars or indeed Laffette mounted MG'S

I have included a pic of my RK31 so you can identify the differences and where the damage is located.
