    JP Sauer K98 question

Hi guys, so I have a mauser that has me stumped. The stock is an Israeli stock, with 7.62 burned into it. Everything else is german and aside from some electro-penciling, looks rather unmolested. I am trying to determine if it is, in fact, a 7.62 or 7.92 that someone simply threw an Israeli stock. It is my understanding that those converted should have 7.62 engraved somewhere on the receiver or barrel, which is nowhere to be seen, the barrel IS, however, marked 7.92 as well as a CAI import marking stating it is 8mm. Were these converted using an insert? If so, is there a trick to determining if there is a barrel insert or not? I really cannot tell and I am desperate for your help. Thanks all

The 7.62 would be Israeli......However I believe the receiver/proof marks were generally removed on these.....Yours is likely a postwar used original WW2 German action placed in an Israeli stock........Electro-pencil could be eastern European used or Russian.....Bodes

The maker's code and year seem to be very faintly stamped...was that common for this manufacturer?
                Nice shooter BTW

thats mostly due to my camera, the code and the date are not as shallow as they appear in the image. . . nor is my carpet that filthy!

Actually, Sauer DID buff their receivers more than others,
and their rec'r stamps are generally light in depth...

Compare to a dot receiver (below)...
