    The Luftwaffe Loved it!!

    Amigo's,
Here is a little gem that I aquired recently. They were small, compact, and easy to carry. The Luftwaffe ordered 30K of them. Hungarian Mod. 37 Femaru marked jhv 43.
    Holster marked jsd 42.

As Bill would say --- enjoy.... I sure am!

                Ronnie,

Great P37! This was a great pistol for that time and a favorite among flying crews. I have in my PC a couple of pictures showing the P37 with Luftwaffe crews.

I read somewhere that the Luftwaffe contract for this pistol was for 85,000 pistols. Can someone confirm that?

                  Doug,
Would love to see the photos if you can find them!!
                  Whittington states
"A contract for 50K Model 1937 --- was made with the Hungarians in 1941, which was fulfilled by February, 1942. Another contract for 60K was signed in 1943. Less than 50K of this lot were delivered. Production ceased in November 1944." I don't know if all were intended for the Luftwaffe. I just remember reading that the Luftwaffe got 30K. I'm still looking for the source. Maybe I mispoke, Sir. If so, I apologize.

                    O.K. My Bad
The above was from Whittington's published in 1969.
His "revised" editiion published in 1989 further reveals the following...
"All these pistols were dated 41 or 43, and none were dated 42 or 44. Most of the magazines were numbered to the pistols, but not always. Rarely is a pistol now encountered with a matched magazine(s)." --- "Procured by the Heereswaffenamt, was issued to the Luftwaffe in large quantities. It is documented that most of the first 50K (jhv 41) went to the Luftwaffe. Most of the identified holsters for the pistol were procured by the Luftwaffe and stamped accordingly."
"Serial number tabulation of pistols in the second contract (jhv 43) indicates tht only about 30K were delivered against the contract quantity of 60K."
I believe the last paragraph is where I locked into the 30K for the Luftwaffe. That is not necessarily so.

                      Ronnie,

A great looking P37 rig there! and with matching mag! and also, don't forget the minty, un-issued holster! (I just knew I should have bought up all those holsters when they first came in!)

                      I love it!

Don't need to apologize! All these numbers can be puzzling to anyone! It's me that should thank you for going after this information for us.

I will find these pictures and send to you or post here.

Congratulations once more for such nice find!

Nice piece but I still prefer the Krieghoff P-08 as a gun for flying crews
