    RC k98 ?

    Happy boxing day all!

Christmas brought me my first k98 and I am still excited. Its a Russian capture with the all TR markings fully intact. The receiver is marked 147 (JP Sauer, yes?) 1938. My question is really about the stock. There is no bolt take down pin and it has grasping grooves and the underside of the butt is burned with 7.62. Am I correct that this would be indications of it being Israeli? Also, the cleaning rod shaft appears to be filled. Why was this done? Was it simply filled with some wood filler or is there a dowel stuck down the whole shaft? Any info will be greatly appreciated! I will post pictures as soon as I buy camera batteries. Thanks guys

Yeah, you got a Sauer M98. As to the 7.62, the Israelis were the only ones to my knowledge who rechambered them to that caliber, so i would definitely assume that it is Israeli. Christmas brought me a CZ52 and an M9 Beretta.

Ooooo, m9 beretta So that confirms what I figured bout the Israeli stock but what I find odd is the barrel and receiver are all original and marked 7.92. I also measured the barrel an it seems to be 8mm. So why the 7.62 stamp if the barrel is an 8mm with insert?
