Reblue by Russians , the butt is OK. there were a few variations on these.

All MP44's are scarce and as for being a Russian Capture that is all part of this guns history, some collectors are super fussy and want everything mint and original which is a matter of choice and these guys you will never please , Some like them a little salty and appreciate wear and tear as part of the items story , whatever you have you can never please everyone.
A wise old collector said to me with regard to Mint items showing little wear..."What use is a 60 year old virgin to anyone? "

Yes, there is a fashion of collecting expensive mint items, some of which have been always in store rooms or offices and do not have seen any battlefield!!

One thing is a rusty piece of not recognizable steel and another is a weapon with honest wear, and even the first one can have it interest some times more interest than a factory produced item.

Russian capture going by the 'X' in front of the serial number, but I wonder if it was then given to the East Germans by the Russians? The DDR did refinish and use them, I have an ex DDR MP44 (dated 1944) and it has been refinished at some point in its life. Does the mag have MP44 on one side and 1001 on t'other? If so this is a DDR mag which might give clues to the guns previous history and mine also has the serial number on the bottom of the stock like this one, this also may point to it being an ex DDR gun?

Interestingly I notice it has two UK deactivation stamps, the original one is Birmingham Proof House mark from 1994 when it would of been originally deactivated and then, I guess, the deact certificate has been lost and it has then gone to the London Proof House in 2008 to be reproofed and a new certificate reissued (well I'm presuming this would be the reason).

I was not aware that the Russians had put out any RC MP44's on the market? All the ones I have seen have been Yugo or East German.
The extra markings (pressure testing?) after the serial number indicates that the gun was imported as a live firearm. This is not consistent with the bulk of guns found in Europe, which is normally marked with BNP under the chamber and under the rear of the barrell.
But the "X" can also be found on pre-Jugo guns. In regards to the finnish the tell-tale signs on a MP44 is if the push-rod and bolt has been blued (done postwar).
In the USA almost all parts kits comes from chopped x-jugo MP44's and have been reblued, while almost every single live MP44 is a vet bring-back and normally in original condition.
In Europe almost all live and de-mills that can be found for sale seems to be ex-jugo and refurbished (we do not have parts-kits!). So a reblued gun ain't that unnormal or bad!
